Skål

2018

[letter]form follows function

Inspired by studying abroad in Denmark, Skål is the second adaptation of work combining typography and glass. The follow up to Cast Type, instead of making letters out of glass, Skål is an attempt to make letters into glass.

Drawing from elements of Scandinavian design, Skål embraces simplicity, minimalism, and functionality. Encased in the foot of the cup is a bold å, one of three additional characters (æ, ø, å) in the Danish alphabet. Pronounced somewhere between school and skull, “skål” is Danish for “cheers.”
